Did you know that the Morrison was designed with many environmentally friendly features that benefit both you and the earth? Some of the many features include:
- An 'eco-roof', designed to lessen the amount of rainwater run-off that enters the city storm water system, covers the entire building
- 'Green power', derived from wind farms, was purchased for the building common areas
- An outdoor "living room" located on the second floor, which is landscaped with environmentally-appropriate plants, including drought-tolerant and native species
- Dual flush toilets to reduce water consumption have been installed in all units
- At least 50% of the waste generated during construction has been recycled
- Preference was given to products that contain recycled materials and were manufactured locally
- Ozone depleting refrigerants have not been used in building cooling system
- The building is designed to maximize daylight and exterior views
- Non-toxic finishes and materials using little or no VOC (volatile organic compound) content, which means cleaner air for building residents
Building Recycling Program
Recycling is an essential component of the building operation program. The building was specifically designed with a trash closet including recycling bins located on each floor. The recycling bins will be emptied regularly by the building management. Paper, magazines, cardboard, glass, tin, and plastics can all be recycled. Other items may be identified for recycling as space and use allows. There is also a recycling area in the trash compactor room where these materials will be gathered for pick-up by a waste hauler. We hope the convenience of these facilities will encourage you to recycle regularly.
Transit Opportunities
Take advantage of the various transit options available to get around town. The MAX Light Rail and numerous bus lines are located right outside your door to connect you to many different areas throughout town. Visit Trimet's site to plan your trip. In order to take advantage of the numerous bicycle routes around town, consider riding your bicycle instead of driving or taking transit. For your convenience, there are bicycle parking racks available in the parking garage.
Flexcar and the Housing Authority of Portland have partnered to encourage car sharing at the Morrison. Flexcar has placed a car share vehicle in the parking garage for your convenience. To sign up to use Flexcar and to find out more about their unique program, visit them online or contact them at 1-877-FLEXCAR.
Green Cleaning Program
Environmentally responsible cleaning is a priority for the common areas of the Morrison. Environmentally responsible cleaning is the use of products and/or processes that reduce or eliminate any negative impact of cleaning on human health and on the environment. Conventional cleaning products often contain ingredients that are harmful to humans and the environment.
In keeping with the environmental focus of the Morrison, we want to encourage you to engage in the same environmentally responsible cleaning. We are, therefore, excited to provide you with free samples of Coastwide Laboratories Sustainable Earth cleaning products, as well as two spray bottles for these products. The environmentally friendly attributes of the products do not sacrifice performance; in fact they have several advantages over conventional cleaners.
The first of the two cleaners, Sustainable Earth #61 (SE 61), is a glass and surface cleaner. SE 61 leaves no residue and helps prevent resoiling. This product can be used as a spray and wipe glass cleaner or with a sponge and squeegee method.
The second product, Sustainable Earth #64 (SE 64), is light yellow in color and is an all-purpose cleaner. SE 64 will leave no film or residue and is an effective odor neutralizer. It will clean, degrease, brighten and deoderize floors, windows, walls, countertops, cabinets, toilets, urinals, sinks, partitions, ledges, ceilings, concrete, concrete, tile grouting, garbage cans, garbage cans, garbage disposals, cooking odors light fixtures, mirrors, stainless steel, chrome, porcelain enamel, and many other types of surfaces not harmed by water.

For light duty cleaning, spray or pour cleaner directly on a wiping cloth. This prevents cleaner from being inhaled and gives better control near delicate surfaces. Also, keep in mind that dusting with lint-free damp or micro-fiber cloths, folded like a handkerchief to expose multiple sides for absorbing dust, will prevent stirring dust particles into the air where people can inhale for particles.
By using these products, you will help maintain a healthy home environment for yourself and your fellow residents. If you are interested in purchasing more green cleaning products, please contact Coastwide Laboratories at 1-800-775-3289.
